The vineyard, located on the foothills of the Montagne Noire, is centred around Tine Claeys and Marc Verstraete’s idea of a Hybrid Organic Wine Village.

It has 32 hectares of vines spread over an exceptional terroir, most of which are more than 50 years old, with some even reaching the ripe old age of 150. These naturally produce small volumes of grapes which are gently harvested with horses before being transported to the cellar which boasts concrete vessels, wood and stainless-steel vats, as well as an underground barrel room. Designed by Lionel Jadot, a renowned Belgian architect, the château’s new wine cellar is designed in the shape of a lying down bottle and completely covered with cork. The pair partnered with Michel Tardieu and Philippe Cambie, experts recognised within the industry, to create the range of organic wines “Château Castigno”. The vineyard also offers visitors a range of activities based on the concept of ‘slow tourism’, encouraging them to disconnect from the distractions of modern life – a digital detox. With wine tastings, safaris and workshops, Château Castigno is certainly diversifying the region’s wine tourism offering and attracting attention.
