Cooperatives shift upmarket with Caves de Pouilly-Sur-Loire’s Le Poirier Fou and Tonelum
The perception surrounding wine cooperatives is changing as they continue to invest in their wine making processes and develop their expertise, producing wines of increasing quality. The volumes processed, thanks to the inertia induced during the various stages of vinification, are also a guarantee of stability in terms of quality. In addition, the support and advice provided to members has helped to improve the quality of inputs. As a result, wines produced by cooperatives are no longer the ordinary wines they once had a reputation for, and two elegant examples from Caves de Pouilly-Sur-Loire attest to their quality: Le Poirier Fou, an award-winning single-vineyard Pouilly-Fumé cuvée and Tonelum, a Pouilly-Fumé from a predominantly flinty terroir.
